Though I’ve had plenty of throw-away phones in my lifetime, all of which were of the cheap-n-tacky pre-paid variety, Gremlin was my first ‘real’ mobile phone.
Purchased as a pre-paid like all the phones before it, it was above and beyond the plastic finish of devices that looked and felt more like toys than telephones, so I was impressed with it from straight out of the box. Solid, sturdy, still functional after a few accidents with slippery fingers that would have killed most of my former phones, I loved it for its durability.
Until Gremlin I’d used Nokia phones for the most part, aside from a bad purchase of a Sagem which left me very disillusioned about phones in general. The interface is intuitive, and not so dissimilar to Nokia that it took more than a day to figure out the menus and the functions and get some applications installed – Twitter and AIM related applications.
I like the candybar shape, and though it houses such a great camera, it’s still quite slim and pocketable in all but the tightest jeans. It served me well, and though I don’t know what to do with it now, I’m not yet prepared to say ‘goodbye’ to such a trusty phone, that wouldn’t have been replaced for another year if I hadn’t had such a good opportunity to upgrade to the C905.
